Lartigue 1910 Basque Linen — Care Guide
You have just acquired Basque linens from Lartigue 1910. We hope they bring you complete satisfaction. These care tips will help you look after your linens every day.
We would be delighted to welcome you soon in the Basque Country or Béarn for a visit of our weaving workshops.
Cotton Canvases
Before first use, we recommend a long wash at 30 °C with a gentle spin to make the first ironing easier.
- Natural shrinkage of approximately 8% in length and 3% in width will occur. Please account for this for any made-to-measure items.
- After the initial wash, you may wash at 60 °C. Always choose a gentle spin to preserve fibre quality.
- This prewash does not apply to baskets, potholders, oven mitts, pouches, cushions, and bags.
Coated Fabrics
These fabrics receive a triple acrylic coating on one side.
- Clean with a slightly soapy damp sponge, rinse, then wipe with a dry cloth.
- Machine wash is possible very occasionally, cold, without spin, and without fabric softener.
- Iron on the uncoated side at a warm setting.
- Avoid permanent sun exposure and do not leave under the rain.
Deckchair Canvases & Outdoor Cushions
Woven in acrylic for outdoor use, these fabrics are resistant to fading caused by sunlight (UV) and moonlight.
- Machine wash at 40 °C.
Curtains
Dry cleaning is recommended to avoid possible shrinkage in height.
Final Recommendations
For stubborn stains (wine, grease, tomato sauce, etc.), dampen the stained area and rub with Marseille soap or, even better, a Sommières-clay stain-removing soap. Let it sit for 2 to 3 hours, then machine wash at 60 °C. Treat stains promptly for the best results.
Origin and Craftsmanship
All our fabrics are of guaranteed origin, woven in Ascain (Basque Country) and Bidos (Béarn). Since 1910, we have upheld a demanding savoir-faire, respecting tradition and using natural fibres (cotton, linen) and environmentally respectful dyes.
